Provincial Walnut Serving Table

£1,950.00

A late 19th century French serving or provincial buffet table from the Loire Valley.

Likely originating from a French manor or farm house and used as a server, dessert or hunt table. Crafted from solid walnut with three generous deep drawers across the front, decoratively shaped apron, cabriole legs and a pull out side slide. The slide was intended as a carving station or for wine/dessert service.

In beautiful original condition with genuine patina and wear to the table top, edges, drawer fronts and legs. Typical French walnut grain with characteristic warm honey-brown tones and burl-like figure in the drawer fronts and table top. The original drawer pulls are deeply oxidised and worn smooth from generations of use.

Bookmatched and parquetry-style veneer panels on the reverse side means the table was intended to be visible in a room and not simply pushed against a wall. It could have stood behind a sofa or have functioned as a room divider.

Traditional French antique at its best with plenty of character and history. In todays world the table would be well suited to a hall or console table, or perhaps as a server in a hospitality environment.
