Provincial AMAX Shop Counter
A restored provincial shop cash register counter from France, circa 1920.
Produced by 'AMAX, Andre Ray' of Lyon, a specialist in secure cash drawers for businesses, banks, notaries etc. in the early 20th century.
Crafted largely from pine with an oak counter top, three drawers and a further partitioned cash register drawer. All drawers have their original blackened steel cup handles.
The cash drawer has its delightful original AMAX security mechanism and is in sound working order. It has a change-able combination using five touch buttons hidden within its handle. Next to the internal mechanism is also an alarm bell (not working) which would have alerted the shop owner of the cash drawer being opened.
There is a mid-way shelf and two further base level shelves.
Immensely quirky and characterful with a hundred stories of old. Rich in colour and wear. An absolutely beautiful shop counter, hospitality host station or even a statement kitchen island.
Dimensions:
Height: 90cm
Width: 150cm
Depth: 60cm
