French Elm Workbench
A restored and hugely rustic mid 19th century workbench from central France.
Crafted from French elm with an impressive 10cm thick two slab solid elm bench top. The top is beaten and bruised from generations of hard labour and certainly all the better for it. Undulating layers of wear through 150+ years of service provide its superb character and presence. The original remove-able cast iron bench dog sits above the elm's rich tones and detailed grain patterns.
Two central pine fronted drawers on steel rails, one of which is partitioned, with vintage industrial black iron swing handles. Below is a full width low level planked pine shelf for further storage.
Solid elm carcass bolted together with heavy duty ironmongery of old and raised on feet extensions for an improved work top height.
Beautifully restored to retain its character and history. This bench would make a stunning statement as a freestanding kitchen island, prep bench or retail display piece.
Dimensions:
Height: 88.5cm
Width: 176.5cm
