English Oak Drop-Drawer Plan Chest
A beautifully crafted English oak plan chest or flat file, circa 1930s.
Sourced from an old Dorset art studio and crafted from the finest quarter sawn oak.
Seven full depth drawers of equal proportions all with the most exquisite original brass cup handles.
Each drawer is hinged so the drawer front drops down upon opening to give easy access to the storage area.
Solid oak top, drawer fronts and carcass with decoratively panelled oak sides and reverse.
Beautiful natural oak feathering adding a rich character. Oak feathering or 'medullary rays' are naturally occurring in oak and an indication that a piece of furniture has been crafted from the finest and most expensive quarter sawn oak.
This chest has been raised to give the perfect height and functionality as a freestanding central kitchen island. Attractive from all sides too.
Equally suited as originally intended to be as a flat file in any design, photo or artist studio.
Minor signs of wear commensurate with age but super solid and damage/repair free.
A very fine example.
