A Pair of English Library Armchairs
A handsome, high-quality matching pair of English late Victorian library armchairs, circa 1885–1900.
Of excellent form with broad leather backs, turned front legs, carved scroll arms, and a stretcher base giving them a strong, masculine "gentleman's club" aesthetic.
Walnut frames with turned spindle galleries beneath the arms, original upholstered leather, original sprung seats and brass front castors. Uniform rows of original decorative brass dome upholstery studs.
The leather is old, hand-dyed hide with heavy wear and oxidation that creates such a beautiful patina and character.
The chairs have substantial presence and would work well in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Dimensions:
Back Height: 120cm
Seat Height: 48cm
Width: 66cm
Depth: 50cm
Origin: England
Circa: 1885
