16 x West Country Chapel Chairs
A superb collection of 16 matching 19th Century oak and elm chapel chairs.
Recently removed from the Avalanche Memorial Church, also known as St. Andrew's Church, in Portland, Dorset.
These chairs are thought to have been there since the church was constructed in 1878. The church was built in memory of the many lives lost at sea from the collision of 'SS Avalanche' with the 'SS Forest' off Portland Bill in 1877.
The chairs are in original and untouched condition, straight out of the church.
They are complete with bible shelf and most also still have their prayer cushion hook.
Oak saddle slabs with contoured shaping for added comfort.
Super craftsmanship and built to last with double H-stretchers and secondary stretchers for extra strength.
All chairs have solid joints with no movement and are damage/repair free.
Expected signs of surface wear commensurate with age.
Wonderful and heartfelt provenance.
These church chairs would look fantastic if stripped and re-finished.
Great in a bar/restaurant environment.
